Unaccompanied Minors: Help Youth Thrive In Their Communities

Unaccompanied Minors: Help Youth Thrive In Their Communities September 11, 2014

Jesús J. Huerta is the Program Officer/Diversity Outreach for Catholic Relief Services. As the program officer for diversity outreach for Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Jesús coordinates the national effort to engage key leaders of diverse cultural Catholic communities in the United States to support the overseas mission of CRS. Through the guiding principles of CRS, based on Catholic Social Teaching, Jesús facilitates CRS efforts to ensure cross fertilization of CRS services in dioceses, organizations and agencies that support intercultural and diverse ministries.

The surge of Central American children and youth arriving in the United States is due to increased violence in the region, which on top of other economic and social push factors, makes taking the dangerous trek north the only source of hope for these children. Catholic Relief Services works with at-risk-youth in Central America to give them the tools they need to thrive in their own communities.
