On Tuesday July 6, 2011, his holiness Pope Benedict the XVI named Bishop Alvaro Corrada Del Rio, SJ bishop of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Returning to his native Puerto Rico, Bishop Corrada Del Rio served as auxiliary bishop of Washington in 1985, an apostolic administrator of Caguas, Puerto Rico in 1997 and was named bishop of Tyler, Tx. in 2000.
