Ok this article is for the ladies in Ministry.  Many of us in ministry are often on the go, traveling to conferences, working 10-14 hour days when suddenly our phone is dead. Our battery has taken its last breath and we have lost contact with the world.  What if there’s an emergency?  Our charger is sitting at home waiting to be reunited with our phone but we have no juice.

Last September, I found out about a pretty innovative product called Everpurse through Kickstater.  Kickstater is a fundraising platform that allows entrepreneurs, musicians, artists, social causes, and nonprofits a way to raise funds for a particular purpose.  Project creators set a funding goal and deadline. If people like a project, they can pledge money to make it happen.  I was so intrigued by it that I decided to back them and in turn I would receive my own purse.

What is Everpurse? It’s the purse that charges your smartphone.

Their site describes it as having

EV!photo“a special charging pocket into which you place your smartphone. Our patent-pending docking system guides your phone smoothly onto a dock connector at the bottom—so you don’t have to fish for a cord!

To charge Everpurse itself, you can simply place Everpurse on its charging mat. It uses inductive charging to send energy wirelessly from the mat to the purse, so you never have to plug the purse in! You can leave a charging mat plugged in wherever it’s convenient for you—at work, at home, wherever—and drop Everpurse onto it when it needs charging. We suggest leaving Everpurse on its charging mat overnight, and it will have a full charge the next morning.”

While the production process took a lot longer than they had hoped, I finally received my purse last week.  I am not really going into the color options or textiles used (I’m not that much of a prissy girl and I was looking for functionality rather than a cute purse.  Although, it is pretty cute. See photo above). Upon inspection, it is the size of a clutch and fits into a  larger purse.  I opened it up and stuck my iPhone in the charging pocket.  Well, my iPhone did not fit in its current protector case.  Sad day as I love my super sturdy protector case.  They do provide a protector case that fits into the charging slot but the top and bottom parts of your iphone are exposed and I am weary that if I happen to drop it (which I will), it will land on that open space and crack my screen.  Booo!!  So now I am left with a great product that functions as both a purse and a charger for my phone but my phone is left unprotected. Or I can use it and every time I charge it, I will need to remove my case, which is kind of annoying.  I’m going to try to see if it works with a different case and I will let you know how that goes. I stuck the phone in using their case and it immediately started charging.  It’s a really cool product!  I am just not sure that I will use the purse on a regular basis, but I think it will come in handy when I travel.  I am, however, wondering how airport security will react to it.  The purse is a little heavy and you won’t be able to fit much more than a wallet and maybe some makeup. It will probably be a great going out bag.

If you purchase them today, they range in price from $189-$319. Yikes! It’s quite a hefty price, especially for those of us in ministry and it currently works with the following phones; iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S III.

Everpurse claims that you can charge your phone twice in one day. I will need to test it out and then comment back.  I am happy that I backed this product as I think it’s a great idea, I just wished there was a way around the case.
